At Firefly Healing we practice the traditional healing art of Jikiden Reiki and we invite you to experience this gentle, hands-on, supportive treatment just as it was practiced a century ago in Japan.
A Jikiden Reiki treatment can help bring you back into balance - mind, body and spirit. Most people report a deep sense of calm as well as relief from anxiety, depression and discomfort.
Here at Firefly, we focus on supporting clients long-term, whether that be through chronic illness, cancer treatment, care-giving or pregnancy and child

“Jikiden” means “as originally taught”. “Reiki” is most often translated as “life force energy or soul energy”. Jikiden Reiki is Reiki practiced as it was originally taught in Japan. It is a gentle, hands-on treatment for the improved health and balance of mind, body and spirit. During a treatment, the client lies fully-clothed on a massage table, and the practitioner places their hands gently on various parts of the body, allowing the Reiki energy to flow into the client. There is no pressure or manipulation as with massage.
No, Reiki is not a massage. Although the practitioner places their hands lightly on the client’s body, there is no pressure or manipulation applied, and the client remains fully-clothed for the session.
Reiki is different for everyone. Most people report a feeling of deep calmness and relaxation after the session, but during the session people can experience it very differently. A Reiki session should be a comfortable and relaxing experience. You, the client, are not expected to meditate or concen
Not at all. Reiki is a wonderful complementary therapy to whatever other treatments you are using. Because Reiki works to support the body’s immune system and natural healing abilities, clients often find that they feel better more quickly. There are no side effects or contraindications for Reiki, and Reiki is safe and effective for everyone at every age.
Reiki can help you feel more like yourself more quickly. If you are receiving chemotherapy, for example, Reiki can help your body detox from the medications after they’ve done their jobs. This means you could experience less nausea, fewer headaches, better sleep, increased appetite and more energy. Similarly, with radiation and surgery Reiki can reduce pain and other unpleasant side effects of treatment .
Reiki supports your body’s immune system and natural healing abilities, so you may notice that your wounds heal a bit more quickly. Reiki also supports your mental health, so you may find that you have less anxiety, less fear and a more positive attitude. All of which allow you to live your life more fully.
It is safe to receive Reiki immediately following or even during surgery. Because Reiki does not involve pressure or manipulation and can be administered either through light touch or without physical touch, Reiki can safely be given without disturbing the surgical site. Enkaku Chiryo (Distance Reiki Treatment) can also safely be given during surgery to support the body’s energy and natural healing processes.
Reiki is not a medical treatment. A Reiki practitioner cannot diagnose or cure disease. However, some people have reported that they felt calmer, more grounded and more positive after receiving Reiki. We can also work together with your therapist to focus your Reiki treatments for optimal benefit.
Yes and yes. Anyone can learn to be a Reiki practitioner. There are no prerequisites or special skills that you need to have before learning Reiki. In the first level of training, you will learn everything you need to know in order to help your family and friends feel better. If a client is dealing with a long-term or serious health issue, we often encourage a family member or caregiver to learn Jikiden Reiki so that the client can receive Reiki more often.
